The Gathering

The Gathering is a monthly ecumenical prayer event which meets at the Salvation Army in Shepton Mallet. The vision for this event is to 'Gather Christians to build a prayerful community and respond to the needs of our town'. With this in mind, we meet to spend time in fellowship, to pray for each other, for the churches and for the town and to consider how we might practically and prayerfully respond to any needs that arise within the community.

The Gathering usually begins with refreshments and time to catch up with one another. We often include sung worship and usually some time spent discussing a particular issue or question. For example, we recently shared our own experiences with regard to personal prayer times and then talked about ideas that may encourage us in this discipline. Each time we have a biblical focus to help us be centred on God and from this basis we then move into our prayer time, which can take a variety of forms including; silence, open prayer, led meditation, creative prayer etc.

The Gathering is linked to our 24/7 prayer room, which is located in the Baptist Church. This contains a number of creative resources, books and other ideas to prompt prayer and encourage Christians in the town to pray for our community and for the world.
