Peter Street Rooms Gift Day
Saturday 7th October 2006 saw a Gift Day where parishioners were invited to come to Peter Street Rooms to see the progress of the restoration work to date.
Revd Martin Wood was on hand all day to receive gifts for the project in return for coffee and cake.
The works have included the strengthening of the first floor where the main joists and bearers had rotted and become weak and unsafe.
A new disabled persons' toilet has been installed on the ground floor on the site of a former store cupboard.
As well as these major refurbishments, many minor improvements have also been carried out including new locks, repairs to gates and doors, new floor coverings, and the addition of a security push bar to the Yellow Cellar fire exit door.
It's hoped to follow up with new fluorescent lighting in both meeting rooms, new illuminated fire escape signs and a general brightening up of all areas with paint.
The cash raised will be added to the money already made available from the contingency fund and the sums previously donated from the Methodist Church which shares Peter Street Rooms.
Stop Press: The total raised for the day was in the region of £4500!
