Prayer Policy of St Peter and St Paul's

Celebrating the Gift of Prayer

Teach us to Pray Lord, teach us to pray.
Help us to come with boldness to the throne of grace.
Make us conscious of your presence in our midst.
Give us the freedom of the Holy Spirit.
Enlarge our vision and increase our faith.
And may our words and our thoughts be now acceptable in your sight, O Lord, our rock and our redeemer.

The Parish encourages prayer in a practical way through the following:

  • Morning Prayer in the Church at 8.30 am Monday to Friday
  • Twice-monthly evening prayer meetings currently held at the Bread Rooms at 8.00 pm on the 1st, 3rd and 5th Tuesdays
  • Prayer at house groups
  • Prayer during our regular worship
  • Prayer Ministry team meets monthly for an hour to listen to God, and to pray for those individuals in our parish who have specific needs
  • Occasional Days of Prayer - ideally three each year
  • Mothers' union Monthly Prayer Meeting
  • Contemplative prayer held on a Thursday currently at Shalom, Princes Road, Shepton Mallet
  • Ecumenical prayer meetings
  • Keeping a prayer diary

Moved by God, through the Holy Spirit, we aim to be open to any new ideas that are brought to us. If you wish to know more about prayer within our Church please contact the Revd Liz Smith

An act of Thanksgiving

Father, we thank you for the gift of Jesus Christ to be the Way, the Truth and the Life; for the love which moved Him to endure the cross for us and for all mankind; for the victory of His resurrection and the glory of His ascension; for the outpouring of the Holy Spirit and the witness of the Church through many centuries; for the encouragement of our growing awareness that we are all one in Christ Jesus; for the blessings received in belonging to each other in the fellowship of the Holy Spirit; for the privilege of being called to discipleship of Jesus Christ, to bear witness to His eternal presence and His saving power. For all these joyful gifts, thanks be to you, O God.
