Peter Street Rooms Development
The major works in Peter Street Rooms were completed several years ago. The works included the strengthening of the first floor where the main joists and bearers had rotted and become weak and unsafe.
A new disabled persons' toilet was been installed on the ground floor on the site of a former store cupboard.
As well as these major refurbishments, many minor improvements were also carried out including new locks, repairs to gates and doors, new floor coverings, and the addition of a security push bar to the Yellow Cellar fire exit door.
Other improvements include: fluorescent lighting in both meeting rooms, new illuminated fire escape signs and a general brightening up of all areas with paint.
We partially solved the damp problem in the Yellow Cellar by building a soakaway at the foot of the external staircase so that rain water will drain away from the fire escape door rather than running into the room.
Thanks to everyone for their patience during the building works, and to the band of painters who gave up several weekends to clean, mask, fill, paint and generally give the old place a face-lift!
The upgrading of Peter Street Rooms is an on-going project and improvements will me made to other areas as time goes by. Many thanks to the Methodist Church for its support in providing funds for some aspects of the refurbishment scheme.
