Shepton Mallet

So where is Shepton Mallet or Sepeton (sheep town) as the Saxons knew it?

Market Cross, Shepton MalletShepton is a small market town at the foothills of The Mendips in beautiful North Somerset and is within five miles of the UK's smallest Cathedral City of Wells. Once famous for its cloth, brewing and shoe industries, Shepton Mallet is home to Matthew Clark Brands (remember Babycham?) a major bottling company, and The Bath and West Showground which hosts the annual Royal Bath and West Show and other major events such as the Christian family conference New Wine. The town is also within earshot of the Glastonbury Music Festival which is held just down the road at Worthy Farm in Pilton. Twenty-one miles due south of Bristol on the A37 (once the Fosse Way) Shepton Mallet is the town that nearly everyone has driven through en route to the south west!

The parish church of St Peter and St Paul has been around in one form or another for about 1000 years and has been developed over the last 800 years or so to the beautiful building we know and love today. If you would like to know more about the history of the church itself follow this link to the church's main website.

This website is dedicated to promoting the Bells Restoration Appeal which was launched in the Autumn of 2006. Please click on the links to discover more about the appeal and to find out how you can play a part in this exciting project.
